Welcome

Welcome to our Character Education CPD Platform. This project has been made possible through a collaboration with The Jubilee Centre for Character and Virtues, based at the University of Birmingham, who have supported us through our journey.

Tony Bradshaw
Head of School, Colmore Junior School

We are very proud of the character education that our students receive at Colmore, but also that of the teachers, trainees and Early Career Teachers. As you work through this CPD package for Initial Teacher Trainees and Early Career Teachers, you will find that we have based our training on the work of The Jubilee Centre for Character and Virtues. This has provided us with a solid platform and practical understanding with which to develop a broad and deep ‘lived’ character education program for all our stakeholders.

We are a nationally recognised school for our character education work and have provided training for our own SCITT course and other local schools who are embarking on their own journey. We will be developing more resources for leadership, middle leaders and experienced teachers in the near future, but one of the most important areas of developing character education is within trainees and early career teachers, as they will form the future of the workforce and help shape educational change.

As a trainee, you will be embarking on a fantastic career working with bright and eager young minds. We feel that as well as a high quality academic curriculum, helping and enabling our young pupils to ‘flourish’ in life and society is one of the key responsibilities and aims we have. We hope that you find our CPD useful and that at the very least, you begin to think about the moral and ethical role that you will be taking on and how you might best fill it.
